Teen Therapy

Cynthia Barrios, Trauma Specialist, trauma therapist for women, Cynthia Barrios, LMFT, anxiety women

Why wait.......deal with issues effectively

Families often go through a rough patch. Whether the issue itself, stems from a lack of understanding between those involved, sibling conflict, or developmental disagreements with a child, a difficult situation can have an effect on the entire family. Family counseling, or child therapy, can be helpful when problems arise and can help restore and improve communication.

Some situations that may benefit from counseling include:

  • If a family is going through a loss.
  • If a family member is suffering from substance abuse
  • Issues between parents (parenting issues or going through a divorce)
  • If a teenager is experiencing behavioral, anxiety or depression
  • Sibling conflict

How is it accomplished

The goal is to improve relationships and improve methods of communication and conflict resolution. Additional goals of treatment include; developing emotional awareness, effective coping skills and identifying the root cause. Families are a unique ecosystem, and issues affecting one member of a family can reverberate and affect the whole unit.

The Process

Email or call the number provided. Once, an appointment is scheduled, you will be emailed a link to the "client portal." You will need to complete the forms to secure your first appointment.

If you are a parent scheduling for a child under the age of 18 years of age, the first session will be with only a parent.

Your therapist will go over your child's background, history and current struggles.  You will leave the parent session knowing exactly what it is we are working towards and how it will be accomplished.

Your therapist is able to test your child for anxiety and/or depression to see if this is a current issue.  This creates a baseline for your therapist, we are able to see what type of anxiety they are struggling with and how severe it is.  These test are helpful in showing whether or not therapy is working.  We like to see results!

Appointments

Individual sessions are usually 45 – 50 minutes in length. Most clients are seen once a week initially. Then, as time goes on, less frequently. The number of sessions ultimately depends on what your current needs are.
